Fan productions are a mixed bag of ropey productions, downright crap and on the rare occasion great to even high standard works of qualify. The trick often is to wade through the Internet to find something actually worth Watching. Every now and again though the hunt does prove well worth the effort, and in this entry I intend to bring to your attention what I have so far found to be the best of the Fan Film to date.

What's important before we continue is to understand the premise behind the Fan Film genre. What is a Fan Film? Some would claim it to be plagiarism on a more appreciative scale, and in many ways that's almost accurate. This isn't always a bad thing though when you consider the "remake" phase Hollywood is currently going through. Remakes of films such as The Omen, and Chains Massacre and film adaptations of the likes of Miami Vice and Dukes of Hazzard have met with what most consider dire results. Feeding the masses drivel over quality for the benefit of a quick buck. But there is a considerable difference between remake and reinvention. Take for example Battle Star Galactica and Doctor Who, and why have the two shows become synominus with success. Because they were actually created, written and financed by producers, directors and even actors who were fans of the original, and it is fans who can interpret (or in these cases reinterpret) the original source much better than a exec who's in it for a quick buck, and they do it well.

It is largely due to this simple fact, we come back to the poor man's Fan Film. In the light of Doctor Who and Battle Star Galactica's recent success, how do fan interpretations stand out against their big budgeted rivals? .
